The Fields

Nemu band baru keren^^
Namanya 'The Fields'

Band-bio dari Last.fm
Fields are an Anglo-Icelandic electronic/indie band formed in London. In early 2006 the band played their first live shows. They eventually signed a unique deal with Atlantic Records which allows them to keep releasing records through their own Black Lab Records set-up as well as Atlantic. They are set to record their debut album with legendary producer Michael Beinhorn who has produced the likes of Herbie Hancock, Korn, Mew, Soundgarden and Marilyn Manson.
I think the music is kinda Radiohead-like campur switchfoot ^^ :p, tp beda soalnya ada vokalis cewe.

Last.fm bilangnya mereka mirip Secret Machine, Polyphonic Spree, Brian Eno, and The Beatles (huh?)

well i dunno, you tell me:

itu live performance lagu mereka 'Song for the Fields'
dan ini videoklip lagunya

even ademhalen

lagi sibuk apa Ma?

B-CONNECTED - website negara2 lain blm ada isinya, td south africa mnta dicariin logo yg resolusinya gede, jumat mesti nganter2 tamu dr afrika, minggu jadi zaalmanager

Proposal Youth in the World/Girls of the World - Music Mayday ceritanya pengen bikin proyek under EU.
Nama programnya sih Youth in Action. yg dibagi2 jadi 5 actions lagi. Music Mayday ngambil action 3.2 -> cooperation sama negara2 luar EU member.

trus action 3.2 ini kebagi jadi 6 tema:
(1) Strengthening of civil society, citizenship and democracy
(2) Fight against racism and xenophobia
(3) Inter-ethnic and inter-religious dialogue
(4) Post-conflict resolution and reconstruction
(5) Active role of women in society
(6) Minority rights

ruben ngusulin buat ngambil yg no.5, soalnya selama ini MM blm pernah involve/take part in proyek macem itu, lagian juga bisa jadi first experience yg bagus buat MM-HU.

OK
jadilah saya yg ditugasin sementara buat the initial preparation (download application forms, cari tau apa aja yg mesti di submit, other requirements, etc.)
awal2nya sih ngira klo aku cuma bener2 awal doang, ga smpe isi2 form or bikin proposal. tp ternyata tidak :p ruben menganjurkan klo sy juga ngisi2 form dan mulai bikin proposal. coz emang deadlinenya mepet (31 may) dan this week org2 psti sibuk banget ma B-CONNECTED

uhm tapi i got to be honest klo gw blm pernah bener2 all by myself, has to come up with structuring concepts n other planning details. ruben cuma provide ide abstrak: bikin after-school performances di Hungary, Tanzania, Ethiopia n Tanzania oleh kumpulan women artists dr seluruh negera member MM. abis itu bikin kerjasama ama women-platform di NL (or HU) buat ngadain evaluation meeting/seminar ttg 'Active Role of Women in Society'. dan this feminism thing is totally new for me. satu2nya talks/events yg berhubungan sama women n feminisim ya diskusi hari kartini wktu itu -.-

mnggu lalu dah bikin draft proposal, dah dapet feedback dr negara2 laen juga, trs kemis/jumat kmrn meeting ma ruben, n we went thru the forms n requirements, dan dan.. basically i hv to arrange them all.. dan dan.. rasanya sy overload :p i feel hopelessly alone :p

kmrn2 smpet mikir klo i dont hv the quality/capability for this, this is really out-of-my league. ruben jg ga gt ngasi panduan dan pegangan T_T coz he himself is busy with other things.
dulu wktu masi ada annelies or brechtje, gw kebantu banget.. apa2 tinggal nanya, mrk juga make sure klo aku bener2 ngerti bfore ngelepas..

well i hope things will work out eventually

E-coli in drinking water

Abis pulang makan kemaren, pas lg browsing TV Channel, I suddenly stopped at the re-runs of the day's news..
Headlinenya: (in English) Bactery found in tap-water distributor
*syiit.. dimana nih?*
oh Hoofddorp
*wait, Hoofddorp bukannya deket sini?*
*listening to the news*
(in English)".. the pump station distributes water to the areas of ...[*ada amsterdam ga ya*]... and some parts of Amstelveen [*NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!*]"
:'(
this is NOT happening!

(men on TV, in English) "It is recommended for people to cook their water for min. 2 minutes before they use it"
(interviewer, in English) "How about with the water we used when brushing our teeth?"
(men on TV, in English) "Well, if you cook it first, then it will be okay"
T____T
sampe segitunya????
hiks
so this morning i frantically searched for more news/data on this.. this.. DISASTER.. yg ketemu pertama sih yg dr Expatica.com, i flipped the pages of Metro-paper today but found nothing on it. Tp yg dr Expatica ga nyebut2 'Amstelveen'.

16 May 2007

HOOFDDORP - The e-coli bacteria was found at a water pumping station in Hoofddorp on Tuesday. The pumping station is operated by water company PWN.

The company has therefore warned residents of Haarlem, Haarlemmermeer and neighbouring municipalities to boil tap water for two minutes before drinking it, PWN reports on its website.

The e-coli bacteria can cause stomach ache and diarrhoea. PWN is investigating how the harmful bacteria could have ended up in the pumping station. Residents in the region can safely shower and wash, the company says.

A spokesperson for PWN says that the contamination affects 170,000 households in the Kennemerland area. Last week the e-coli bacteria also turned up in a residential neighbourhood in Hoofddorp, but that contamination has since been taken care of.

*sigh*

Update:other sources -> Metro, which led me to this website (crisis.nl), quoting fr this website:
Dit advies geldt voor inwoners van de gemeenten Aalsmeer, Bennebroek, Bloemendaal, Haarlem, Haarlemmermeer, Haarlemmerliede, Spaarnwoude, Uithoorn, Zandvoort en het landelijk gebied rondom Amstelveen (niet de stad Amstelveen).

okay, so.. i guess uilenstede is not included.. no? (Gondel piye Gondel?)
news updates can also be read here (Waterpump's website) - gile stasiun pompa air aja websitenya keren gitu..
and from Gemeente Amstelveen's website:
Het grootste deel van Amstelveen krijgt water via Waternet. Daarin is geen e-coli bacterie aangetroffen...De bewoners ontvangen binnen enkele uren een brief van de gemeente.
Jadi klo ga nerima surat apa2.. presumably i'm safe.. well they hv this number for more information: 0800-1351 .. tapi.. gratis ga ya? :p

JEWEETED!

Tori Amos covers Nirvana

dari The Music Slut: We're Awesome!: The World Of B-Sides & Rarities, #39:
Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Featured on Tori's Crucify EP back in '92 (pre-Kurt's passing), Tori has declared her version of the alternative staple as 'a great breakfast cereal version'[...]but Tori's cover of the tune is one of the best ever recorded (The Bad Plus, The Melvins & Atari Teenage Riot are amongst countless others who've tackled the track).

For as masculine and fierce as 'Teen Spirit' is and always will be, Tori manages to soften the song beautifully while adding her own unique feminine quality to the epic track.
So bayangin gaya nyanyinya Tori yg alus dan (setengah) meratap2.. background piano.. singing along to

Here we are now..
Entertain us..
I feel stupid..
And contagious..

Other notable songs added to today's playlist of mine:
1. Paul McCartney's Ever Present Past.. dari album barunya dia, solo works-nya dia. I think it's pretty much the Beatles :D but i love that band anyway, and yea.. no resentment whatsoever ^^ (dari Idolator)

2. The Middle by Great Northern. Band baru asal California. A more harmonic version of The Wannadies :D kangen gw ma band itu (from Filter-Mag)

rihanna - umbrella

Lagunya Rihanna yg baru (Umbrella) enak.. :p
"umberella..ella..ella.. e..e e.. e.. "
hehehe
tp katanya in her vidclip, pas yg bagian dia muter2 ala penari balet, pake 'replacement foot' hehe.. really? well i dun care, its her right to hv replacement foot :p

ah anyways.. happy birthday Vintoel :D (n nizar :D)

on indonesia masa depan

jadi apa itu IMD-SKM?
(promise this is only for personal use n own satisfaction)
quote fr the website:
"...pelajar - pelajar Indonesia yang mempunyai ide dan gagasan tentang Indonesia yang ideal di Masa Depan [dan sebagai] sumbangan serta perwujudan dari rasa berbangsa dan bertanah air Indonesia dari para Kaum Muda Indonesia (pelajar Indonesia)."
Like i said in my previous post, knp tiba2 woro2 imd-skm ini? well coz emg itu yg akhir2 ini menyita perhatian saya..

menurut websitenya ni inisiatif udh mulai sejak 2 tahun yg lalu. mas Berly, "the idea and initial discussion is more than one year ago, but the process have been rather slow until revive again last Feb". rasanya emg sempat bbrp kali disebut2 di mailing list. tp kurang mendapat tanggapan pasar :D i think websitenya juga baru jalan 2 or 3 months ago. dan wiby lalu bbrp kali posting soal "ajakan membuat tim2 penulis dokumen strategis" di milis.

idenya sih keren, dan very idealistic. dan klo ngeliat diskusi yg kmrn, buat mencapai "masa depan Indonesia yang lebih baik", sepertinya mungkin. langkah awalnya simple: tertulis. ide2 apa, pemikiran2 apa, yg could contribute to that vision. tp begitu si amin bilang, "iya.. pertemuan selanjutnya bulan juni".. hmm i felt, "helloo.. that's a couple of weeks awayy".. pengenalan dan familiarisasi baru skrg? unless the ppl "up there" (those who sat around the big table and declared themselves as 'Suara Kaum Muda'-nya IMD-SKM) doesn't really want 'other voices' or 'oppositional voices to their own' appear.
ya or myb the IMD-SKM thing is only for those who could write an extra cool strategic document in 1 day :p
ah anyway, i felt that those ppl r unfair n does not give the proper chance to us undrgraduates.
which also reminded me of amin's girlfriend who sat next to him n didnt say a word during the discussion. ya terang aja, diskusinya pake bahasa indo. which is exactly my point, kita ternyata jg blm bisa fair sama org2 di sekitar.
but *uhm* yea i wish those imd-skm ppl best of luck. hope they wouldnt make a blunder. n even if they would, i hope they could wipe the dust off n start again (with proper marketing n communication :p). if they really believe that every young Indonesian has the capability to change the future of their country, then they might should hv work harder in digging (opening channels/events of discussion.. for those graduates dan org2 berpengalaman, do enlighten us anak2 s1 :p we dont even know what the hell is secapa, secaba or tanah bongko(bonto?bongkok?)), or stirring up those voices -> melakukan provokasi yg memicu pd kembali bersuaranya org2 semi pasif :p

kata chauft "org2 yg muncul itu2 juga" (ya jgn sampe kyk gtu terus lah.. fresh blood is good :D)

well iya, anak2 s1 bisa belajar banyak dr anak2 s2. dulu "pendekatan" dilakukan lewat fun activities kyk makan/nonton bareng. n then more serious parts lewat diskusi. wlo yg dateng anak2 s2 doang. but mungkin juga wktu itu diskusinya pake approach yg kami anak2 s1 (yg kebanyakan org2 happy-go-lucky) tdk bgitu familiar, or yah tabrakan sama jadwal kerja. but seriously, sooner or later it'll get to our attention, sperti skrg..

dan yah, klo ada yg protes "kalian orang Indonesia, seharusnya itu tanggung jawab kalian".. iya we know that. cuma kita ga dateng ke belanda buat start a new movement. we come here to study :p (dan mencari pengalaman, cieh) yang nantinya insyAllah klo pulang ke indo, bisa kami terapin. so makanya yg imd-skm kyk gini ga terlalu kepikiran coz simply, it has never been our intention. well intinya, ga ada yg instan: seperti visi imd-skm yg merujuk ke tahun 2030 :p ah ya, anggep aja skrg2 ini fondasi2 kurang baik yg hopefully bisa diganti dgn better generation in the future. belajar from past mistakes ceritanya.. now if you could excuse me, i hv to go to work..

Dogbert's tech support

first note:
my deepest condolence for Yussi,
may his family n relatives are given the strength to get through this tough time

second note:
diskusi IMD-SKM (now i know for sure that it stands for Indonesia Masa Depan - Suara Kaum Muda :p)

so berangkat dari mailing-list, pertanyaan2 sodara chauft, akhirnya wiby nyelenggarain discussion (dan makan2) kemis kmrn.

yg dateng lumayan, ada mas Enade yg org farmasi, amin dan ratih, mas wiby, mas angga yg org kedokteran, tanti, adho, indri, bulan, mas binsar (teologi) yg dateng blkgan, mas najib (sos-antropologi), mba grace (enviro), mas zaenal (economics, double degree) isrina n andys.

mas najib bawa persiapan plg lengkap since dia punya "kantor" lengkap dgn printer n photocopy machine. handoutnya dia tu bagan dialektika (i dunno what that really means), that functions as a 'framework for concepts n ideas' for IMD-SKM.
it looks like this:

the A-F r subjects/field (social welfare, education, human rights, corruption). The column on the left: PN -> civic worker, MS - civilian, SW - private (corporate)

"transformation strategy" is where the heated discussion is going to be. and of course all preliminary analysis has to hv a strong base. so mr. najib starts with his view on defense n homeland security + human rights.

he stressed on reform from the military regime to total democracy. and fairness in the National Body of Intelligence. (including as well a merge between economics intelligence).

second was amin with his economics. he suggested having a separate-independent body for economics. with the leader being elected by the public.

third was pharmacy - on generic medicines and patented ones; the low quality of medical workers in Indo; angga also indicted that there's a lack of doctors in Indo. which was quite surprising. coz what we know that every year, hoards of high school graduates are willing to dedicate their lives being a doctor. but apparently the prob was bcoz they are all highly-concentrated in java.

anyho.. there was also remarks on the transformation from centralisation to decentralisation (also applied to the discussion of women movements a couple of weeks back). but yeah, i mean its like national evolution. wktu jaman2 orba -> centralisation -> military regime. ganti orang, n now people starts to struggle, really using their minds (i hope) to find the best resolution for their regions (or for themselves with the lesser morale) so for the time being- nationalistic approach might not work (yet). what happens with decentralizations is the comeback of local-power breach. kyk jaman dulu dgn raja2 > yg kuat yg berkuasa.

lets be optimistic. ppl with better morale n goodwill blm abis di indo.

there goes my summary :p harusnya si indri yg secretarynya PPI publish notulen di mailing list. but lets just wait..

B-CONNECTED 2007

Persbericht

10 mei 2007

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

B-CONNECTED

5 countries, 1 festival!

I love the way / You live so intensely / Enjoy every minute of life / With space to swing / Your arms around / Laughing loudly

Unlike me / Do you think I'm strange? / Unlike you / I am not pretending

wakakaka.. dasar dudul ni orang xD tp again, lets see on the positive side: at least he managed to come up with the structurisation of this whole discussion sessions this coming Thursday

a rather childish and backstabbing reply to that "girl"

Dear you whom i met in the tram on my way back home,

First of all, i have to say that you look quite sweet and innocent. my rantings below are just my woes to the posts that you made on PPI-A mailing list :p (and anyway, people are already moving on to a more fulfilling and worthwile subjects/discussions.)

quote: "I'm quite disappointed in those who think the steering-committee (or any person, for that matter) of IMD-SKM are the ones who should make you interested in IMD-SKM and be motivated to change the country which you have been fleeing of since you all probably thought another country would give you better chances." -> little miss, you don't know anything about us.

1. interested in IMD-SKM - we didn't even know what that is. you said its been there for 2 years. but yeah, so what if they never really communicate anything significant (for us -undergraduates at least)? and as your motto is "don't believe in anything, question everything", you should understand that as beings with a brain (which are insyaAllah on the right place), we have the right to question EVERYTHING that comes our way. and again, not until last week do we really feel intrigued by this presence of IMD-SKM. Additionaly, us being Indonesian (those who are born and raised there)are very familiar with these TALKS or DISCUSSIONS with the promise of making a better future, but have no result. call me pessimistic but if ANY movement does not have a 'clear' introduction, and have 'clear' message what can we -undergrad students, mostly- can do. can we be ensured that when we got there we can actually contribute something n not just another 'kambing congek' coz almost probably those who are attending the event are mostly far-more-experienced grad students?

2. Quoting again, "which we have been fleeing", does this include your current boyfriend?

3. "I've never put anything in the persons personal situation publicly, never criticised the personal situation and never tried to, because then you start to get personal." -> uh huh, and stating that we are just ppl who have been fleeing from our own country (without checking if its true or not).. is not personal? i see...

4. "There are a lot who agree, but there only are a few who try to attack me 'back'." uh huh.. a lot? I SEE..(or can't?)

5. "I'm only criticizing those who just complain all the time" --> who's complaining? you're the only one who complaint all the time. and i suppose this is our (as in PPI-A) first time that we had 'personal and massive' discussion. since when 'once' become 'always'? you are NEW in this mailing-list. again, we were just 'asking questions'.. that's our right.

Anyho .. seeing this on a good way, your "personal comments" had triggered a lot of positive and quality discussions. here's a toast to you, mam. i sincerely hope that they can enrich your intellect (to your future health and education project in Indo) as well as they did to mine.

oh, and i totally disagree to your stupid analogy. the "watching footbal is like seeing a group of fundamentalist moslem and fundamentalist jew together." d-uh.. how come?? When they call oneselves 'fundamentalist', they should practice religion in a very fundamentalistic way - meaning, religious ppl are supposed to be peaceful. coz islam (and im sure jew) doesnt even teach about attacking other ppl's believes. pls dont use the word "fundamentalist" wrongly.. there's a lot who've done that already.

heroes.. heroes..!

Models of behavioral change

The future of Indonesia (slash this IMD-SKM) -> behavioral inertia .. or behavior change?

Models of behavioral change

via Knowledge Jolt with Jack (comment-extended feed) by Jack Vinson on May 07, 2007

Luke Naismith has a nice pair of images, one from Robinson, and another that reverses the positive effect. They depict 7 Steps to Behavior Change, and he's looking for more info on their source. Model of Behavioural Change.

behaviour-change-model.jpg
behaviour-inertia-model.jpg

In Theory of Constraints, we look at the Levels of Buy-In / Levels of Resistance Model. Traditionally, it is a model that begins with "there is a problem that must be fixed:"

  1. There is a problem.
  2. There is a general direction of a solution.
  3. The solution will solve the problem.
  4. Negative effects of the solution can be overcome.
  5. Obstacles can be overcome.
  6. Unverbalized fears can be overcome.

Another type of change is the kind that everyone wants, regardless of the current state of reality. This is the kind of change that is driven by a shared vision or shared desire to move the organization to a new place. Those steps look something like:

  1. The goal.
  2. Realize that the goal is much harder to obtain than we thought.
  3. There is a general direction of a solution.
  4. The solution will get us there.
  5. Unverbalized fears can be overcome.

So according to the model (please click on em for better view), the IMD-SKM discussion can be seen as a solution to a problem (informasi/pendekatan IMD-SKM kukrang jelas), dan (somehow) can be seen as a a way to get closer to what is presumed as the general goal "Masa Depan Indonesia yang Cerah Ceria"
-sekian-
:p

ppi-a update

jadi di milis PPI-A lg rame2nya nih.. dari protes anak2 pasif terhadap postingan yg terlalu provokatif on faith n religion, smpe hasil IMD-SKM (indonesia muda discussion or something like that).

anyway, i wantd to say something about it, but.. rasanya sudah cukup terwakili oleh posting uda :D

my favorite quote so far:
oh and of course:
I attend almost all discussion held by the PPI Amsterdam (under Berly,Momon, and Wiby). I recalled that there is no or only few discussion on what-so-called IMD-SKM (btw, i never seen you in such discussion. Where are you at that time??) How do you know that there is no participants at that so-called discussion if YOU WERE NOT EVEN THERE. You just only have "second hand" information. Do not be so proud about this.
well yg jelas finally wiby mengajak semuanya dateng ke IMD-SKM discussion next week Thursday. good initiative, walopun agak telat dan aku bilang berkesan agak "menghindar".

pengen bikin ayam penyet (vin.. ayam penyet..)

yup, kita (student-slash-orang Indonesia) masih perlu banyak latihan dalam
berdiskusi dan menyampaikan/menerima pendapat. Large flow of information and
also this (newly) acquired freedom of speech, harus digunakan secara hati2.

diskusi di milis? i actually have no resignation. saya juga harus belajar
menerima tulisan2 orang yg berasa 'nyolot'.
PPI. (regulations n policies.. kayak negara kita aja :D kurang pengaturan
dan perundang2an yg memadai). knp saya males ke forum (any forum)? krn d
sana overload info banget xD
sometimes yg pernah dipost, masih diungkit2 smpe thread kesekian. (krn kita
malas mencari dan baca dr thread paling awal).
email, well kita dikasih alert klo ada sesuatu yg baru. dan kita punya
control tu pesen mo kita baca pa engga. tp klo forum? sometimes rasanya its
like a massive opinion rubbish bin.
ngedelete email yg masuk.
tp terus krn ada kepentingan (mo promosi B-CONNECTED :P) baru deh minta
subscribe lagi.

but yup, let's be optimistic. practice makes perfect. including this student
organisation.. and its mailing list.

"smoga intensi2 yang baik buat kemajuan bangsa kita dimudahkan jalannya oleh
Allah"

(Aminn)
