ABC Asia Pacific - News - Australian drug suspect Schapelle Corby pleads her case in Indonesia

"Accused Australian drug trafficker, Schapelle Corby, has made an emotional plea to Indonesian judges to find her not guilty of smuggling marijuana into Bali.

Our correspondent in Bali, Peter Lloyd, says during a three-minute address to the court, Schapelle Corby denied again that she had smuggled marijuana into Bali.

She pleaded for freedom, telling the panel of judges that she had suffered enough during the seven months in jail for a crime committed by what she called 'a tactless drug smuggling network.'

At times during the presentation the judges made asides to each other, smiled wryly and one read a book on philosophy.

It is open to the court to sentence Ms Corby to death if convicted of smuggling, although this is unlikely since the prosecution has argued for a life sentence instead.

A verdict in the case isn't expected for another month."

Looks like poor Ms Corby has to spend yet another month in jail.. Another month of trying to convince Indonesian authorities that she's entrapped within a 'tactless drug smuggling network.' Mybe she should talk to the judge who was reading the philosophy book. (hm.. i wonder what the ABC correspondent meant as a "philosophy" book. Supernova? Master Q comic? or maybe Jakarta Undercover?)

Wonders what Russell Crowe has to say about it.

"Please check your bankaccount number - Delta Grant transfer" - Mrs. Isakh

This just came in like.. 40 minutes ago..

I have to transfer the 1st payment (for the first appliers) of the 2nd payment (after hand in ‘internship/study report’) next week, Tuesday 3rd of May. You need couple weeks to get your money. I’m afraid you’ll get the money in your bank account at the latest on 1st week of June.

hiks.. why so long... T_T

Sorry for the delay. It’s because we have technical problem.

What technical problem? r they waiting for Windows Longhorn to be installed in all of their PCs?

Hopefully you’ll understand the situation.

Even if we dont, what can we do??? T_T

monster cuddle

weird scene? it is.. apparently this Mrs. Harada has an unnatural obsession for cuddly monsters and stuffed-weird creatures. Browsed through her biography and also found that she loved, also, rainbows.. (how sweet) and cooking.

What kind of food do you think, brewing in her kitchen? hahaha.. after a short browse.. i found only one recipe, that is, a toast with melted chocolate bars (..........)

anyway.. more on Jenny, her journal-slash-blog is interesting though.. it is called Pomly, i dont have the slightest idea why. The image on top was taken from there (without permission, of course ;p .. hmm i should watch myself for police officers breaking in to my office or my room)

I checked her paintings, because that's what artists do right? paint.. And.. umm.. it looks like those that my sisters could have made. Talk about painting, my friend Wulan was invited to have a lunch with Madeleine Albright.. Why? because she made this beautiful sketch of her campus for a flyer on Ms. Albright's visit to that place. The Vice President of her school was way impressed and had asked Wulan to come for a lunch with the ex-US States Secretary. Now.. that's fancy..

So eat of the sustenance which Allah has provided for you, lawful and good; and be grateful for the favors of Allah, if it is He Whom ye serve.

alert: mad cow disease d utrecht (ho ho ho)

A case of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD), the human form of mad cow disease (BSE), has been confirmed in a patient in Utrecht, the Netherlands -- the first known case in the country -- according to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

Rotterdam’s Erasmus Medisch Centrum, the national surveillance center that monitors the disease in the Netherlands, initially reported the case. The European surveillance center for vCJD in Edinburgh confirmed the diagnosis based on brain x-rays and the course of the disease.

The Dutch National Health Inspectorate has launched an investigation to determine whether the disease may have been transmitted to others. The Dutch government also has notified European authorities of the case.

Other Infections from This Case Improbable

VCJD is a variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Characterized by a spongy degeneration of the brain, the disease is caused by special protein structures called prions. It can be transmitted by tissue transplants and contaminated hospital instruments, especially during neurosurgical procedures.

Recently, speculation has arisen that vCJD may be transmitted by blood, based on two cases in the United Kingdom where this may have occurred. However, no conclusive scientific evidence for that hypothesis has been found to date.

The patient concerned in the Netherlands' case was never a blood or tissue donor, and never received any blood transfusions or tissue transplants. In light of that, it is highly improbable that this patient infected others or contracted the disease from someone else, the Ministry says.

Tainted Beef Likely Cause

In recent years, the Netherlands has introduced various measures to minimize the risk of transmission by blood:

# As of September 1, 2001: removal of white blood cells from all blood products (General Leukocyte Depletion).
# As of November 1, 2001: exclusion of donors who lived in the United Kingdom for over six months between 1980 and 1996.
# As of February 1, 2005: exclusion of blood donors who personally received a blood transfusion after January 1, 1980.

Investigations into the contraction of vCJD are focusing on the consumption of tainted beef as a cause. To date, it is unclear whether this particular case is attributable to contaminated beef, the Ministry says, and further investigation will be needed to determine whether the cause is traceable.

Safety Precautions Taken

The Netherlands ensures the safety of its beef by testing all vulnerable cattle for BSE, the Ministry of Health notes. In addition, the brains and spinal cords of cattle are separated and destroyed during the slaughtering process, as they could be infectious.

Other cases of vCJD have emerged in the past in European countries, starting in England. Ireland, France, Italy, Japan, Canada and the United States also have witnessed the occurrence of the disease, the Ministry notes.

Radio Australia - News - Scientists place 11 volcanoes under close watch in Indonesia: "Last Updated 14/04/2005, 21:04:24

Indonesian scientists have placed 11 volcanoes under close watch after a series of powerful quakes awoke intense subterranean forces and increased the chances of a major eruption.

Tens of thousands of people have spent a third night in temporary camps after fleeing the slopes of Mount Talang on Sumatra island, where hot ash has been raining down since Monday.

On Wednesday, Anak Krakatau, was put on alert status, amid warnings of poisonous gas emissions.

A similar warning was earlier issued on Tangkuban Perahu, near the west Java island city of Bandung, which will next week host more than 50 heads of state.

Indonesia's Vulcanology Office also says Mount Merapi, 70 kilometres north of the Sumatran city of Padang, has been on alert since last August, but, like others, is now under closer watch. "

Reuters | Latest Financial News / Full News Coverage: "Indonesia on volcano alert despite signs of calm

By John Nedi
BUKIT SILEH, Indonesia (Reuters) - Areas of Indonesia were still on high alert over two volcanoes despite signs their activity was abating, vulcanologists said on Thursday as frightened residents remained in makeshift camps.
Mt Talang on Sumatra island had visibly calmed down after belching out smoke and hot ash, triggering the evacuation of more than 26,000 people.
'There is now less smoke coming out of Mt Talang ... the height of the smoke is down to 250 metres,' Surono, a vulcanologist from the Directorate of Vulcanology and Geophysics in the Java city of Bandung, told Reuters.
At the peak of its rumbling on Tuesday, the 2,690 metre volcano spewed smoke to heights up to 1,000 metres.
Officials, however, maintained a top alert level on Mt Talang, which lies near the city of Padang, 938 km northwest of Jakarta, and also kept the status of Mt Tangkuban Perahu at the second-highest level.
Tangkuban Perahu is on Java, Indonesia's most populous island, near Bandung, where leaders from Asian and African countries are due to gather in 11 days for a summit meeting.
Vulcanologists have also issued an alert at the third highest level on Mt Anak Krakatoa (Child of Krakatoa), off the western tip of Java, due to increased activity marked by rumblings.
'The increased activity (of Anak Krakatoa) is not very significant compared to Tangkubang Perahu and Talang,' vulcanologist Dali Ahmad said, adding that the 300 metre volcano had not spouted any smoke or volcanic materials.
Anak Krakatoa emerged after the massive explosion that destroyed the original island volcano of KKrakatoa in August 1883. That eruption triggered a tsunami, killing more than 36,000 people in Java and Sumatra.

Local officials said the 26,000 people who had been evacuated from the slopes and areas around Mt Talang in West Sumatra have not returned to their home villages over fears of eruption.

"The status of Mt Talang is still on top alert so it's better to take precautionary steps and not return for the time being," said Elvi Sahlan, deputy mayor of the town of Solok near the volcano.

On Thursday, thick volcanic dust layered homes and fields in the villages at the foot on Talang, and residents had deserted the surrounding areas.

Indonesia -- but especially Sumatra -- has been hit by daily aftershocks since the massive earthquake on Dec. 26. A quake off Sumatra on March 28 killed at least 676 people, many on Nias island off Sumatra's west coast.

Indonesia currently has 129 active volcanoes throughout the archipelago, the majority on densely populated Java, the Directorate of Vulcanology said on its official webpage."

some words from here..

hari ini giliran ngedengerin "my station" d Yahoo! LaunchCast..

this track came: Here's Where the Story Ends - the Sundays..

The Sundays? band lawas :D jaman2 gw SMP.. ABG.. almost 10 years ago :D omg.. sudah hampir 1 dekade!

karena kangen, I looked up the band's profile on yahoo!

"After the release of Blind, the Sundays were quiet for the next several years. The only sign of the band was the use of their cover of the Rolling Stones' 'Wild Horses' in an American television commercial in 1994. It would be five years until The Sundays would release another album. Wheeler and Gavurin got married, had a baby girl named Billie, and yearned for a normal life during this time (comments by me: huhuhu lutuna...). This obviously explained their absence from the music world, but it was well worth the wait. The Sundays again achieved mainstream success with their third album, Static & Silence (1997), thanks to the popular hit single 'Summertime.' ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide"

Yup.. summertime.. my favorite song :D dulu smpet punya mp3-ny.. but skrg udh ilang deh kayakny.. ada yg mo nyumbang ke saya ga? :D

Anyway, menyenangkan juga ngedengerin My Station.. d mana lagi cba yg bakal muter the Sundays? *now lagi mendalami mellow tunesnya Battery in Your Leg (by Blur)*

Kutipan dari sebuah website:
the video opens at the end of another big night at the Feel Good Inc. tower in an anonymous grey city. The tower is awash with casualties from the party, all sleeping off the effects of the night before. 2D is the last one standing. As he gazes out of the window he sees Noodle pass by on a floating island, topped by a huge windmill. Her world is one of green grass, dappled sunshine and butterflies - in stark contrast to the grimy and debauched world of the tower.

Here's what Noodle had to say: "The windmill is a representation of a note of optimism, a memory of a simpler time. A snapshot picture of an older world, a note of simplicity and a little remembrance of a more innocent moment, pre-struggle."

ssaaahh.. dalem gitu artinya.. padahal klo dibaca2 sluruh lirik lagu-ny gw cma bisa bengong.. kmsudny apa coba..
